Wellbeing and relaxation in Dumfries and Galloway
Many of our guests enjoy relaxing during their holidays at Barend. But did you know there are also many wonderful wellbeing and relaxation retreats that you can dip in and out of? With its stunning scenery, rugged landscapes and the feel of being away from it all, whilst being within easy distance of many towns and cities, Dumfries and Galloway has become a haven for various holistic practices.
Maybe you enjoy a little yoga, or mediation is more your thing? Or do you fancy trying other holistic practices; with everything from sound baths to breathing practices, there is plenty to try! Many of these sessions are fine to join whilst you are on holiday with us. They are all run by locals and don’t require much travel.

Wellbeing and relaxation retreats and practices

The Asheiri Centre is based in Creetown however, there is a monthly mediation practice in Rockcliffe (less than 10 minutes away). This wonderful drop-in is perfect for guests who might want to join others for a mediation during their holiday. Ask in reception to find out if there is a session whilst you’re on holiday. (We’ll post a link to the website when it shows the dates).
Luxury Yoga Retreats with Lorna Macphail run at The Murray Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet. These run most months, more information can be found here. The retreats offer a wonderful mix of yoga, breathing, meditation and an excellent meal.


Alongside weekly yoga classes, Sue Smith also offers monthly menopause yoga retreats in Dumfries. This lovely classes are very welcoming and fine to drop in on when on holiday. More information about Sue and her retreats can be found here.
Wellbeing isn’t just for adults! Rose Wellbeing Therapies, based in Dumfries, offers classes to bring your babies and toddlers to, as well as sound baths and tension / trauma release exercise retreats. Whilst some of these are in monthly blocks, many of the retreats are perfect for holidaymakers.


A recent addition to holistic therapies in the area, Becky now lives at Barend! Alongside subconscious healing and mentorship, Becky will also be organising small retreats over the coming months. Keep an eye out on her Facebook page for any retreats during your holiday. The next one takes place just next door at Bainloch Deer Park in February!
