Barend Swimming Pool and Sauna

Whether you love splashing around with your children in the pool, or are looking to rejuvenate in our new outdoor sauna, Barend’s wellness area has something for everyone.

Beautifully refurbished, the air temperature in the swimming pool is now even warmer, and with water temperatures of 28-30 degrees, Barend Swimming Pool is the perfect place to bring your wee ones for a swim, or maybe come and soak your muscles after a day out. From April 2026 we will be working with a new swim teacher to offer term-time swimming lessons – watch this space for more information.

Our new outdoor sauna (in association with Sauna at the Sea) opened in January. Offering stunning vistas over the Solway Coast and Lake District, the Sauna is available to everyone. Sauna sessions include cold dip tubs, an indoor changing area and hot showers afterwards. Barend guests receive a discount, with a few properties including complimentary use of the sauna.

Barend Swimming Pool

Barend Swimming Pool is exclusively available to Barend Holiday Lodges’ guests and local residents with memberships.

Barend Holiday Lodges’ guests are guaranteed 2 slots per property per week (1 slot for bookings of 5 nights or fewer) in the pool. If you book more than one holiday home with us, you can join up and come for a big group swim together. During your stay you can book more slots if they are available.

Local residents are also very welcome to use Barend Swimming Pool. You’ll need a membership first and then you can book Private Swims or Social Swims. Find out more about becoming a member, and the costs, below.

We have reintroduced Social Swim sessions.  These are great if you don’t want to pre-plan as much, fancy a last minute swim and don’t mind sharing with other people.  We’ve put lockers in so that you can keep valuables safe. Local members can book these in the same way as a private slot.

To see availability and book sessions (either Social Swims or Private Slots) you’ll need to be a member or have booked a holiday with Barend Holiday Lodges directly.

Barend Sauna

Following guest feedback we’re delighted to announce the return of a sauna to Barend. In partnership with Sauna at the Sea, we have installed a handmade outdoor sauna, offering beautiful views over the Solway Coast and Lake District.

Tucked away, with woodland behind, Barend Sauna enables you to fully immerse yourself in nature whilst relaxing in the heat. Seating up to 6 people, you can choose between hiring the sauna privately, or join in a Social Sauna to meet other like-minded people.

Each sauna session includes 55 minutes in the sauna and use of the cold dip baths, with indoor changing, toilets and hot showers. For the ultimate time out, book it with a Private or Social Swim beforehand (membership required for swimming sessions).

If you are local we recommend taking out a membership, which offers reduced prices and additional opening times. However, a membership is not necessary and you can book the sauna on a one-off basis during office opening hours.

Note on Changing Rooms

We realise that one of the great perks of swimming at Barend is the private use of the changing rooms. The changing rooms will be private during Private Swim bookings when the sauna is closed.

The sauna will be open from 3pm 3-5 days per week depending on demand. If demand is high it may open on additional days, but this will not be before 3pm and you’ll be able to see on the calendar if the sauna is available. If you are concerned about having the changing rooms to yourselves please give us a call on 01387 780663 and we will be happy to advise. Please note that both changing rooms have privacy curtains available as well and lockers are available free of charge for your possessions (£1 fee is refundable).

Opening Times & helpful information

The pool is open 9.00am – 9.00pm Monday to Sunday, with reduced hours on public holidays (like Christmas and New Year’s Day). Barend Sauna is due to open in January 2026 and will generally operate during the late afternoon and evenings on 3-5 days per week.

We try to keep closing times for maintenance and upgrades to a minimum and plan them for the quietest time of year (generally January).  We do not have any major maintenance planned for 2025.

Please note that the pool does not have a lifeguard and use of the pool is subject to guests agreeing to the following Conditions of Use: Conditions of Pool Use.
